ACNE / DRY & BREAKOUT

Acne is commonly associated with oily skin, let it be known that dry skin can cause breakouts too. Moisture keeps the skin pliable and supple, whereas the lack of it causes skin to crack, flake, peel, and possibly break out due to overworking the sebaceous glands in the epidermis. When our skin is overwhelmed by our own sweat, dirt, and debris trapped in our glands, our sebaceous glands take over and try to moisturize our skin with our own stale sweat and dirt trapped in our pores. This causes quick evaporation on the surface of the skin and breakouts. Using a toner daily will help balance and clean out the pores. Also, Moisturizers will help with our TEWL, transepidermal water loss caused by evaporation on the skin’s surface. Our skin needs that protective barrier with a nourishing moisturizer for rebalancing your skin’s pH and awakening your complexion.

Sometimes confused with acne, rosacea often shows on the skin as an inflammation and reddening on the nose, forehead, cheekbone or chin. Inflamed capillaries on the skin’s surface give the complexion a flushed look. Rosacea can cause persistent blushing or flushing in the central part of your face. Studies show that in people of colour, rosacea can be missed or misdiagnosed as an allergic reaction or seborrheic dermatitis.

Hyperpigmentation

The genetic background of a person influences pigmentation disorders. Abnormal pigmentation, referred to as dyschromia, can be caused by various internal and  external factors

Hyperpigmentation is an overproduction of pigment, and Hypopigmentation lacks pigment. Hyperpigmentation is an umbrella term used to cover any number of conditions where one patch of skin becomes noticeably darker than the surrounding skin of the same area. This term covers several more specific conditions such as liver spots, age spots, sunspots, freckles and melasma, lentigo, ephelids,  nevus, poikiloderma of civatte, and tanning.

Although different types of hyperpigmentation can be caused by various different factors.

Look for products that include tyrosinase inhibitors such as: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), azelaic acid, hexylresorcinol,  arbutin, bearberry, niacinamide, and kojic acid for lightening ingredients.

Atlas Rose highly recommends 2 products to incorporate into your daily routine if you’re struggling with  a type of hyperpigmentation:

  1. Brightening Serum (water-based, absorbs quickly) - contains arbutin, bearberry, kojic acid

  2. Vitamin C or Radiance serum (oil-based, absorbs slower)- contains 18% pure Vitamin C.

Using both products will help block the melanocytes (pigment cells) preventing more hyperpigmentation and aid in lightening the skin.

Dull / Normal skin

Dullness essentially refers to a lack of radiance or an inability to reflect light well. Dull skin may appear dry,  patchy, ashy, or lacklustre. Additionally, dullness is often accompanied by an uneven skin texture because textured skin is less able to reflect light uniformly. Dull skin can be  caused by dehydration, lifestyle choices, or cutting  corners with
